I remember reading an article  where someone described a successful entrepreneur as an overnight success.

The person went further to say, she emerged from nowhere and suddenly appears everywhere he looks.

You may have heard similar comments before. Irrespective of how often people say this or what they believe, the truth is: there is absolutely  nothing like overnight success!

Success is intentional,  a result of hard work and perseverance.

Success is opportunity meeting preparation – Oprah Winfrey

The journey starts when you make a decision to succeed.

– What does success mean to you?  What do you have to accomplish in 2016  to describe the year as a success. Write this down.

– What do you need to do on a daily basis to make your dreams a reality?  Write it down

– What can you do to keep your vision for the year in front of you? Many use vision boards, some paste pictures of their dream on their refrigerator.

– What can you do on a daily basis to add value to your self and develop yourself more?  Write it down.

Be true to yourself and be as practical  as possible about this.

Spend time creating a clear picture of what you want the year to be. Write down what you need to do on a daily basis to accomplish your goals. Be committed to working hard and consistently doing what you need to do.

It is my prayer that in 2016 you will go further faster. Wishing you a purposeful and successful 2016.

Victory Is Sweet : Lessons from SpaceX

As I sat and watched the Space X team rejoice yesterday so many things were going through my mind.

The energy in the room was almost palpable, the excitement was real. Putting it all simply, victory is sweet.

Space X successfully launched and landed their  giant Falcon 9 rocket.

It was not just a victory for the team, it was a victory for the scientific community as a whole.

Prior to this, the company had made 3 unsuccessful attempts to launch the rocket.

I particularly remember the disastrous launch on June 28th 2015.  The press coverage was massive, everyone had an opinion and criticism  was not scarce all.

The team did not spend time responding to critics.

Instead they went back to the drawing board to understand what lead to the crash and what they needed to do to move things along.

Less than six months after the crash, they successfully launched the  rocket.

There are few nuggets to glean from this:

1.  Fail and learn: If you fail, learn from it. Decide not to give up.  Persevering is a choice, regardless of the scenario, the choice is always yours.  You can fail and quit or fail, learn and move forward. Choose the latter and experience sweet victory that comes with persevering.

When you feel like quitting, remember why you started in the first place – Unknown

2. You can accomplish anything:  The human spirit is very powerful. When you set your heart to do anything you can accomplish it. What do you have in mind to accomplish? Stay focused, stay determined, all things are possible to you if you believe.

3. What you think and say matters: People will always have their opinion , and they are also free to express their opinion. People might think and say you are a failure. Or really cannot amount to anything.

The choice is yours,  the choice to believe is completely yours. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. Believe you can accomplish what you set your heart on to accomplish. Believe there is so much potential within you.

I believe in you!  Cheering you on to success.

3 Ways to Finish The Year Strong!

In a few days we will usher in a New Year.

While some may be thinking where did the year go?  Others may be looking through their accomplishments and mapping out what needs to be done before the year ends.

Irrespective of the category you belong to, you can finish the year strong.

What does finishing the year strong mean to you?

Success is measured differently in different situations by different people.

What is a successful year from your perspective? What needs to happen for you to call a year a great year?

Even though we have just a few days to the end of the year depending on how you choose to see it, you can still finish the year strong.

Here are a few steps you may find useful:

1.  Know where you are and where you want to be:  Take a few minutes to access where you are?

Did you make goals for this year?

How close are you to accomplishing those goals? Or  have you accomplished all of them already?

If the goals are already accomplished what can you do to push yourself a bit further,  yes,  raise the bar and go for more.

If you are no where close to accomplishing your goals or you accomplished some and not all.  Don’t be dismayed you can get it right. The main question you should be asking is how to get it right. There is a how to everything. Carefully think through what you may have done and what you can do differently.

Success in any area of life is intentional never by chance

2.  Write down your plans and your lessons: You may have so much mapped out in your mind, but the journey does not start until you actually write it down.

Success for you at the beginning of the year may be defined as  accomplishing  “x” number of things. (Where x could be any number).

If you have not accomplished all you set out to accomplish, then you can redefine success. Success can be redefined as accomplishing what you have been able to accomplish and having a clear understanding of why you could not accomplish the remaining.

Anytime a plan fails, it is important to think through and evaluate the situation to learn what can be done differently.

Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm. – Winston Churchill

When a plan works, you can learn from it as well. What made it work? Can you make it better. Always  set the bar a little higher every single time.

Make time to think through your successes and failures this year. What did you learn from it? Write down what you will do more of to enjoy more successes. Write activities you need to avoid or habits you need to develop to enjoy greater successes next year.

No matter how busy you are, always make time to think, and also to write down your thoughts.

3. Take Action :  Now that you know where you are and where you need to be, it is time to take action. It is equally as important to execute your plans as it is come up with a plan in the first place.

Be motivated to accomplish that goal, see yourself living your dreams and simply go for it!
